    Matt Nagel Named Top 100 Trial Lawyer

    Texas Judge Stops New Overtime Laws

    A Federal Judge in Texas issued an injunction, halting the Obama Administrations new overtime laws that were set to take effect on December 1st. On Tuesday, November 22, 2016, Amos L. Mazzant III of the Eastern District of Texas, ruled that President Obama and the Department of Labor had exceeded their authority in raising the overtime salary limit.  The new regulation would move the salary limit that exempts workers from receiving overtime pay from $23,660 to $47,476. This injunction is a temporary measure that stops the regulation from taking effect until the judge can issue a full ruling. The injunction casts serious doubt on the Regulation taking effect on December 1st, as originally planned. Is The New Overtime Law Good For Business?     Children Injured In Millstadt Illinois Bus Crash I first saw the headline on Facebook - "Two students taken to hospital after Millstadt bus crash."  My heart jumped into my throat, because this bus accident hit very close to home.  I grew up in Millstadt and went to Millstadt Consolidated School, just like the children on this bus.  I've driven on Imbs Station Road thousands of times, and I immediately began worrying about friends and their kids.  Needless to say, my thoughts and prayers go out to these families who have been impacted by this crash.     NFL Ruffles More Than a Few Pom Poms

    The NFL has ruffled more than just pom-poms in its handling of employment claims from cheerleaders for a number of franchises.  Allegations of wage and hour violations from a number of professional cheerleaders pose serious issues for the league but also provide a valuable lesson for all employers. In 2014, the cheerleaders for the Oakland Raiders filed a wage and hour lawsuit, claiming that the team and the NFL violated national wage and hour laws and created disrespectful working conditions.  After the Raider lawsuit, other cheerleader units also filed claims, ultimately involving several NFL teams, including the NFL in a class action suit.
